I was absolutely over the moon when Michelle and Landon countered my usual suggestion of a sunset engagement session with an even more amazing idea… a sunrise session! Not many people are willing to get dressed up and be on the beach at 6am, but these guys were totally on board. And I have to say, it was absolutely 100% worth waking up early! The morning started with a nice, simple sky. Peaceful and serene with subtle touches of orange and blue. (You can even see the moon above the water in the first vertical image!) Then the second the sun peeked above the horizon we were graced with the most incredible array of vibrant yellow and orange.
When I asked about their first date, Michelle said “I remember at one point during that dinner, feeling like everything stopped around me, and feeling that there was something special about him and I could see myself with him.”
The proposal story, in her words:
“It was on December 28, 2016. We were on a trip to St. Maarten at the time. I had been wondering when he was going to ask me since we had been dating for almost 8 years! It was kind of a surprise and kind of not. I noticed he bought an expensive bottle of champagne when we went to the grocery store on the island. I thought that was kind of out of the ordinary of him. On one of the last days of our vacation he said ‘let’s take the champagne and go watch the sunset at our favorite beach.’ So we did and then he got on one knee and proposed! I was surprised at the time and it felt surreal.”
To give you an idea of just how quickly the sky changes during sunrise, the image above and the image below were taken about 10 minutes apart. The images below were all taken in a 12 minute timespan and by the bottom of the series you can already see the orange starting to fade and the sun rises higher in the sky.
Michelle and Landon will be having their romantic beach wedding next month at one of my favorite venues, the Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
Thank you guys so much for coming out to see me, I have a feeling that I’ll be getting a lot more requests for sunrise sessions after couples see these images! 😉
