Ariv’s Space Themed Cake Smash & Splash Session

I am so excited to share this session with you!! This space theme has been on my bucket list for quite some time, so I was completely over the moon (get it?!) when Mom chose this backdrop to celebrate Ariv’s first trip around the sun. She even brought the most incredible cake to match!!

I’ve had the joy of photographing this family since 2013. Over the past 9 years, we’ve done engagement and bridal photos, wedding photos, maternity portraits, and newborn, milestone, and birthday sessions for each of their 3 wonderful children. What an honor it’s been to watch their family grow!

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t let out an audible gasp when Mom told me that she had gotten an astronaut outfit for the session. Is this not the cutest thing ever??

The cake was one of the best-looking smash cakes I’ve ever seen. Shoutout to Icing Ink in Florence for doing such an amazing job!!

I start each smash with a simple photo of baby and the cake on a stand with the cake topper in place… we try and do this quick because that topper is usually the first thing to be grabbed by little hands! Then we pull the topper out and let baby play around with the icing.

When Ariv started getting a little bored with that position, we pulled the cake stand out and gave him a spoon! Most little ones love chewing on the spoon, and it’s especially helpful with those that don’t like putting their hands into the icing. Ariv didn’t mind though… he dug right in and chowed down!

After the cake, we bring out the bathtub… this is always everyone’s favorite! Only about half of babies actually like the cake portion, but I’m at about a 95% success rate with the tub! Ariv had such a good time splashing that he got upset with us when it was time to come out.
